God has given us so much. We just want to give back.

God has given us so much. We just want to give back.

"This planned gift to Holy Apostles-it's what our hearts told us to do."

Life is not always an easy path, but for Anita and Ed Achtenberg, that path led them to each other and to their parish, Holy Apostles.

"God led Anita and I through trying times, and we're so thankful to Him and our church, especially the prayer group," said Ed.

Anita, a retired medical technologist, feels strongly about "acknowledging what we've received" and she and Ed decided to continue their tithing by naming Holy Apostles Parish Endowment Fund as a beneficiary of their living trust.

"We're doing ten percent of our estate," said Anita, and notes that "any amount helps." "When you consider what the church has done for you and what He has done for you, it's so easy to do this one simple thing," said Ed.

"We all have to make a plan and in a very practical sense-the Church-your church-needs to have income to keep going," said Anita.

The Achtenbergs' blended family includes six children and eight grandchildren. They are the house coordinators for a transitional housing residence.

"They provide a home for men who would otherwise be homeless, and that's incredible," said their pastor, Father Paul Wicker.

"Their work and their legacy gift to the church are amazing testaments to their devotion to Christ."
